A Reminder to Always be Yourself

Take a second and look around. What do you see? Somebody who seems happier, smarter or more confident than you? It’s so easy to compare yourself to other people every single day. Imagining what life would be like if you were funnier like your best friend, if you had more money like your boss, were taller, more outgoing, smarter, had a better car, different clothes, were more popular, etc., etc…. the list goes on and on! It’s human nature to compare ourselves to others but it can also be a source of so much discontent and unhappiness. There is always someone who seems to be doing better than you, has more than you or lives the life that you wish you were living.

Instead of focusing on what other people are or have, start looking at yourself in the same way. While it’s hard to imagine that someone else might look at you and feel jealous, the chances are, someone does! Maybe people wish they could be as carefree as you, have such a natural sense of humor or a unique sense of style (that they would be too scared to try). There is nobody else in the world like you, and that’s something that should be celebrated!

We naturally focus on what we want to change or improve about ourselves, which can be healthy; self-improvement is an important part of life, and what keeps us striving to become better and better people. However, when you measure yourself by somebody else’s standards, you will never measure up! Always focus on being the best you that you can be, not emulating someone else.

By far, the happiest, most successful people in the world are the ones who know who they are, what makes them unique and what they love, then, they build their lives, families and businesses around that, as opposed to modeling them around somebody else. Think about one person you admire… maybe an artist, musician, actor or athlete? Undoubtedly there is something about them that stands out from the crowd that helped them get to where they are today. If they had tried to be like somebody else, they wouldn't be the person you look up to.

Try to find that unique spark within yourself, follow what makes you happy, celebrate what makes you super special and you’re on to a winning path!
